Video: What is Vintage?
The word “vintage” has been popping up in the design and fashion world for several years now, but what exactly does “vintage” mean to us design junkies and décor addicts? Is it Mid-Century Modern? Eclectic? Shabby chic? Steampunk? Salvage? Antique?
The fact that catalog companies and bloggers have started compulsively using the word is not helping many people to understand the true definition.
One Kings Lane, a prime online destination for inspiration, furniture, decor, art, gifts & vintage items recently asked 5 designers to share their take on vintage — you can hear their thoughts in this great video below:
So tell us…what does vintage mean to you?
Share a word or phrase in the comments section below or join the convo on our Facebook page to help us build a vintage inspired word cloud. We’ll add your word to our “cloud” and share the results in an upcoming blog entry.
Here’s a little somethin’ sumth to get the ball rolling…
Oh, and don’t forget to get on our list. You’ll be glad you did.

Vintage can mean many things-but the way to identify vintage is to scan a shop, flea market, romm, etc. and listen to what is being stirred in your memory. Why, Vintage can be an 8 track player cassette to some! It pricks the memory and stirs up images of the past. That’s Vintage.

Gale — I love your take. I recently came across an 8-track player at a food trailer court in Austin and oh, how the memories came flooding back! I immediately recalled standing in the front seat of my dad’s Lincoln Continental (I guess no seat belts was a “vintage concept”, too) and listening to Jim Croce, Tony Orlando & Dawn and the Bee Gees on 8-track!
Carole — perfect and simple words to add to our vintage word cloud. Thank you for contributing!
